So in the modern world we really have to wear ties. It wasn’t that long ago that most offices had a formal dress code which required tailored jackets, suits, shirts and ties. This isn’t the case.

The typical corporate uniform now is, if anything, it’s an open neck shirt. So should we bother to still wear ties when we don’t have to? I like it, I’m an advocate of that look. I often put a tie on like today with a more less formal jacket, a denim shirt and a simple tie or as you’ve got here, this shantung.
I just think a tie looks more finished and I think if you pick the right tie and shirt combination you need to look like you want to wear a tie rather than you have to wear a tie. This is what this conveys. It’s got texture, it frames your face and it looks tidy because often your shirt collar can sort of get a bit lost if you show the placket of your shirt.
If it’s finished, it looks sophisticated, it looks grown up. So consider wearing a tie when you don’t have to.
